Dream Analysis: When Drowning Dogs Turn Into Turtles

Eric says: Most dream symbols have multiple meanings, many specific to the dreamer, but when you see a pattern emerging it truly helps you understand what you mind is telling you.
The party in your dream, is likely to stand for your social interaction.  The people in your life seem to be invading your personal space without invitation.  Everyone is having a good time, but their familiarity with you seems to leave you feeling a little anxious.  You do your best by trying to go along with the party crowd and hide your anxiety.  In the dream your dog stands for your sense of loyalty, friendship, affection and trust.  You saw that the “dog” has drown in your pool.  The pool symbolizes the person’s need to survive as they are being overcome by forces that surround him/her.  I believe you are afraid you are being too open and trusting and now you are “in over your head” struggling with your own identity.  This is backed up by the fact that the loyal, friendly dog turns into a closed off turtle protected by an outer shell.  The protected turtle then goes to the corner of the yard, rather than toward the party.  Your brain is likely telling you to retreat to your hard shell and be choosier with what you show to those around you.

I pulled the Page of Swords, The World and the Page of Pentacles.  Both Pages symbolize enthusiasm for a new venture. The Page of Swords your desire to be more curious and talkative, to express your ideas to others and hear theirs in return.  The World is a change that is coming, you are entering a new phase.  The Page of Pentacles is more practical, telling you to listen to your common sense to achieve success.

Maha says:  I think you are right.  I am normally a very private, shy person.  This year I made a resolution to be more open and it seemed to come very easily, almost too easily.  While I have more friends, I sometimes feel like I am sacrificing what I want to go along with the group.  I don’t always feel comfortable in large groups and really prefer the times I am alone or just with people I really know.  I thought forcing myself to be more social would be a solution but it may be more trouble than its worth. I can still feel the change coming over me though.  I don’t think I should rush things.
