Dream Analysis: Shuffling Cards Leads to the Death Card

Roger: I dreamed I was sitting at the table with my family playing cards.  As I shuffled the cards, I saw that some of them seemed to be stuck together with glue, and I had to pry them apart.  No one else seemed to notice, so I continued shuffling and dealt the cards.  My sister wasn’t playing with the family.  She said the game was a waste of time and I was angry that she wouldn’t join us.

Eric:  Your mind often tries to connect your feelings, concerns, even your intuition to familiar symbols and situations.  To dream of shuffling cards, correlates with your ability to strategize and plan.  You are trying to develop a plan to solve a current situation.  When you dream about shuffling cards it speaks of your indecision.  Rather than act, you are shuffling through the possibilities.  Often your mind uses a play on words to express what you are feeling, so the fact that the cards are stuck means that you are feeing “stuck.”  You are trying to think of options and make a plan to move forward.  Try as you might, you are not finding the correct solution and thus you feel stuck.

People in dreams are a very personal symbol.  To some, the sister would represent playful youth but for you it is different.  You were angry that your sister wouldn’t join in your strategizing and possibly resentful that she doesn’t need to plan a way out the way you do.  No one in your family noticed that the cards were stuck, meaning that you feel your need to plan and get out of the situation is not completely understood by those around you.

Turning to the Tarot, I pulled the Death Card, the Eight of Cups and the Six of Wands.  The Death card is nothing to be afraid of; in fact in this circumstance it is very helpful.  It symbolizes the end of one situation and the beginning of a new adventure.  The Eight of Cup is upside down, a symbol that you know it is time to walk away from a situation that is not working.  The Six of Wands stands for victory as a result of action.  Together the three cards show that the you are moving in the right direction, and that you will be successful in achieving your goals.  Keep at it and don’t be discouraged.

Roger:  That is very helpful.  I have been trying to find a new job for several months now.  It is hard to look for a new job after hours while working at a full time that I hate.  It takes so much planning and sneaking around to go to interviews and return calls employers while I am working.  My sister has been very successful with long term employment that seemed to come easily for her, so I guess part of me resents that.

Dreams are not designed to give you the right answer for the situation.  Deep down inside, you know what is best.  Your dreams are simply a way to access what you know is right as are most comfortable doing.
